July Newsletter 2026

The last couple of months have flown by, and I've been so busy with the day-to-day happenings of life that I completely forgot to send out my newsletter.While I haven't been posting much on social media, I have been quietly busy behind the scenes, spending countless hours in the studio. June was a month of experimentation, where I gave myself permission to explore different painting ideas, techniques and styles. I think it's so important to occasionally step away from your usual way of working and simply play with paint. It allows new ideas to emerge without the pressure of creating a finished piece.Getting some of the ideas that had been swirling around in my head onto paper and canvas was incredibly refreshing, and I came away feeling creatively re-energised. It's something I plan to make a regular part of my practice, setting aside a day or two each month just to experiment, explore and let my creativity wander.

I also spent some time working on a very special commission, a birthday gift for a family member. The subject was the Moon, which couldn't have been more different from my usual botanicals and still-life paintings. It was definitely a challenge, but one that I thoroughly enjoyed. Stepping outside my comfort zone encouraged me to try new techniques and focus on different aspects of painting. I'm really pleased with how it turned out, and I have to admit it's left me eager to create more space-inspired works in the future.

The rest of June and the beginning of July saw me return to my favourite subject matter as I worked on a new collection for Redsea Gallery in Margaret River. The small collection includes one large painting featuring the beautiful Silver Princess eucalyptus, with three little fairy wrens gathered together having a meeting among the branches. I've also completed two medium sized works with beautiful blue and white striped vases, along with three small paintings that would look perfect displayed together as a collection.These new works will be available from next week, and I'll be sharing plenty more photos on Instagram.

Looking ahead, August brings an exciting new chapter as I begin teaching at Tresillian Arts Centre in Nedlands. I'm feeling both nervous and excited, as it's been a little while since I've taught, but I'm very much looking forward to sharing my love of painting with others.I'll also be continuing to work on my online painting classes for my website. It's a much bigger project than I first imagined. I have to confess that filming and editing videos doesn't come naturally to me at all, but I'm determined to keep going and I know it will all come together, eventually.
