I began 2026 full of ideas, my work desk covered in lists and creative plans I couldn’t wait to explore. But everything came to a sudden halt when my beautiful grandmother passed away in mid-January at the age of 91. In that moment, my artistic mind simply stopped.

The weeks that followed were spent with family—supporting my mum with funeral preparations, sharing memories, and sitting quietly with my thoughts. There was a lot of silence, reflection, and tears. At first, I felt frustrated with myself for not being productive, but over time I came to understand that this pause was necessary. I needed that space to grieve, to begin adjusting to a new normal, and to quiet the constant drive for productivity.

Although my year started more slowly than expected, I’ve come to accept that—and now, I’m back in the studio, painting and feeling ready to move forward with fresh energy and new goals.

Towards the end of February, I spent time capturing a range of new reference photos (and admittedly spent a little too much at the flower shop!). This process sparked exciting ideas for more detailed works and gave me the chance to photograph some of the beautiful vases I collected late last year. I’m incredibly inspired by the results and can’t wait to begin bringing these ideas to life on canvas.

I completed three new paintings that I had started earlier in the year. These works have brought a renewed sense of colour and vibrancy into my practice—something I’ve really missed. Painting with brighter tones again brought me so much joy that one of the pieces is titled Happiness. All three paintings are now available at Redsea Gallery in Margaret River for anyone who may be interested.

During this quieter time, I also made the decision to return to small markets. I truly loved being part of the market community from 2020 to 2022, and I’ve missed the connection and sense of community they bring—both personally and creatively. This time, however, I’ll be approaching things a little differently.

In the past, my stall was filled with everything I could possibly bring—paintings, prints, cards, magnets, and more. Moving forward, I’ll be simplifying and focusing on a more curated selection of postcard prints and greeting cards. I’ll also be introducing bouquets of native flowers—the very inspiration behind my artwork in the first place.

I’d absolutely love for you to come and visit me at the markets, as they are such a beautiful way to experience my work in person, have a chat, and connect beyond the canvas. Whether you’re looking to talk about my art practice and the possibility of commissioning a piece to brighten your home, a thoughtful gift of flowers and a card, or simply want to stop by and say hello, it would mean so much to see you there.

I’m hoping this more thoughtful and streamlined approach will make the Market experience more enjoyable and sustainable. I’ll be sharing weekly updates on my Instagram and Facebook with details of the farmers markets I’ll be attending, and I would absolutely love to see some of you—whether you’ve been following my journey for a while or are discovering my work for the first time.

See you in the next newslettter, Bec
